Health advice for USA
The USA remains a top destination for expatriates as it has much to offer. Good job opportunities with low levels of unemployment, high standards of education, many exciting tourist destinations, diverse natural habitats, good quality and variety of food and drink and much more living space than most Europeans are used to.
The Healthcare System
Healthcare in the US is reputedly the most advanced and expensive in the world and the healthcare system is quite complex. Currently most Americans are required to have health insurance, or face a financial penalty, although there are numerous exemptions. The penalty for not having cover in place is assessed when a person completes their annual tax return. The penalty has been repealed, becoming effective in 2019, but a small number of States will be imposing their own penalties for residents who are uninsured in 2019 and beyond. It is therefore advisable to seek advice, before moving to the US, to make certain you will have appropriate cover in place.
